EDB Holds Strategic Networking Session to Empower New Exporters

The Export Development Board of Sri Lanka (EDB) recently held a successful networking and knowledge sharing session at its headquarters in Colombo 02. The event was attended by 100 new exporters and entrepreneurs, including small and medium direct and indirect exporters, and industry leaders from five key sectors: gems and jewellery, tea, processed foods, horticulture and fresh fruits.

The session provided a valuable platform for new exporters to gain insights from experienced professionals. A panel of eminent speakers shared their expertise on crucial aspects of global trade.

Mr. Chanaka Ellawala, Director, Ellawala Exports (Pvt) Ltd., highlighted opportunities in the ethnic jewellery market and shared real-life experiences of entering the gems and jewellery sector and succeeding.

Thushari Weerakoon, Managing Director of Ramya Horticulture (Pvt) Ltd., stressed the importance of building strong, long-term relationships with buyers, noting that some of her clients have been with the company for over 20 years.

Suranga Liyanarachchi, Chief Operating Officer of Anwar Ali & Sons (Pvt) Ltd., discussed the risks and rewards of exporting to emerging markets, and outlined key strategies for penetrating regions such as Africa, the Middle East and Latin America.

Tharindu Haputanthri, Head of Research and Sustainability at Dole Lanka (Pvt) Ltd., highlighted the increasing global demand for sustainable supply chains and best practices for sourcing, processing and exporting.

Mr. Anne Junaid, Chairman, Ceylon Plant Food (Pvt) Ltd., captivated the audience with her journey of overcoming challenges in international markets and offered practical lessons on cross-border collaboration.

The event reinforced EDB’s commitment to fostering export growth by equipping new exporters with knowledge, industry insights and valuable networking opportunities.
