Sri Lanka’s national tea sales recorded a decline in February 2025, with the average price per kilogram falling to Rs. 1,168.93 (US$ 3.96). This represents a decrease of Rs. 16.50 (US$ 0.07) compared to the average price of Rs. 1,185.43 (US$ 4.03) in January 2025.
Year-on-year, the average price in February 2025 decreased from Rs. 1,320.71 (US$ 4.25) to Rs. 151.78 (US$ 0.29).
The national average sales for the year 2025 so far were Rs. 1,177.35 (US$ 4.00), reflecting a decrease of Rs. 116.43 (US$ 0.11) compared to the 2024 average of Rs. 1,293.78 (US$ 4.11).
An analysis of tea sales by altitude revealed mixed results for February 2025. Except for high-ground tea, all altitudes recorded a decrease compared to the previous month.
The high-ground tea category showed a negative variation in Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR) terms but recorded a positive gain in US Dollar terms year-on-year. In contrast, the medium and low-growing categories recorded a year-on-year increase of Rs. It recorded an increase of 1,177.35 and experienced negative fluctuations against the US dollar.
