Retired Supreme Court Judge Upali Abeyratne, Chairman of the Right to Information (RTI) Commission, has submitted his resignation letter to the Presidential Secretariat.

Abeyratne also served as the Chairman of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into Political Victimization, appointed by former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. His appointment to the RTI Commission was met with significant controversy at the time.

The Supreme Court later ruled to annul the enforcement of recommendations made by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry, which had been set up to investigate allegations of political victimization.
