The Colombo High Court has rejected a request by attorneys representing former Minister Keheliya Rambukwella to lift the freeze on his bank account in the parliamentary branch. The account was frozen as part of an ongoing investigation by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).

The decision was delivered by Colombo High Court Judge Adithya Patabendige.

Previously, the court had issued an injunction suspending several bank accounts and insurance agreements belonging to Rambukwella and his family in connection with the Bribery Commission’s probe. This included his parliamentary branch account, where his pension and a compensation sum of over Rs. 95.9 million—received for fire damage to his residence—were deposited.

Rambukwella’s lawyers had recently sought to lift the freeze on this account, but the court has now ruled against the request.
