The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has welcomed the 2025 Budget, stating that it provides a favourable resolution to concerns over payments for doctors’ additional duties.

Speaking at a press conference today (22 March), GMOA Media Spokesperson Chamil Wijesinghe said the budgetary provisions had resolved a key issue that had caused significant unrest within the health sector in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, in a statement on its official Facebook page, the GMOA thanked President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Health Minister Nalinda Jayatissa for addressing the matter in line with agreements reached between the doctors and the government.

“This decision will not impose any additional financial burden on the country. However, doctors have sacrificed one-third of their overtime and holiday pay for the nation. The issue was resolved through flexible proposals and a negotiated approach,” the GMOA stated.
