Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Sri Lanka from 4 to 6 April 2025 on a State Visit, following his participation in the 6th BIMSTEC Summit in Thailand. The visit comes at the invitation of Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and is expected to focus on strengthening bilateral ties and reviewing ongoing development projects supported by India, India’s Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.

During his visit, Modi will hold discussions with President Dissanayake on areas of cooperation outlined in the ‘Fostering Partnerships for a Shared Future’ framework, which was agreed upon during the Sri Lankan President’s visit to India. Key topics are expected to include trade, investment, infrastructure development, and regional security. The Indian Prime Minister will also engage with senior political leaders and dignitaries in Sri Lanka.

As part of the visit, Modi is scheduled to travel to Anuradhapura to inaugurate development projects funded by Indian financial assistance. These projects are part of India’s broader commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s economic growth and stability.

This will be Modi’s second visit to Sri Lanka as Prime Minister, following his previous trip in 2019. His visit is seen as a continuation of the strong diplomatic engagement between the two nations, reaffirming India’s commitment to its ‘Neighbourhood First’ and ‘Act East’ policies.

Modi’s Sri Lanka visit follows his trip to Bangkok, where he will attend the BIMSTEC Summit on 4 April, marking the first in-person summit of the regional bloc since 2018.
