India has provided 50 tonnes of relief materials to Myanmar following the devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck the country on March 28, 2025. The aid, transported by Indian Navy ships INS Satpura and INS Savitri, was handed over by Indian Ambassador to Myanmar Abhay Thakur in Yangon on Monday.

The relief materials, which included essential supplies such as food, medicines, water, tents and hygiene kits, were immediately distributed to the earthquake-affected areas. The earthquake, which claimed over 2,000 lives, caused widespread destruction and collapsed buildings as far as Bangkok in Thailand. Rescue operations are ongoing in the affected areas as teams search for survivors.

India’s relief efforts are part of Operation Brahma, launched on March 29, which involves deploying rescue teams, medical professionals and military support to provide immediate humanitarian assistance. The Indian Air Force has already airlifted several consignments of relief materials, and ships are continuing to provide further assistance.

Ambassador Thakur said that Operation Brahma reflects India’s commitment to supporting Myanmar’s recovery. The response is in line with India’s “Neighbourhood First” and “Security and Growth for All” (SAGAR) regional policies.

India has pledged to remain engaged with the Myanmar authorities in the coming weeks, supporting the country’s long-term recovery and reconstruction efforts.
