For the convenience of devotees attending the special exposition of the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha at the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy, police have introduced a special vehicle identification sticker for groups arriving on pilgrimage.

Anticipating large crowds for the Sri Dalada Dekma, police have deployed teams to identify vehicles carrying devotees and guide them efficiently to designated parking areas. The sticker system is designed to streamline vehicle management, facilitate unimpeded access for worshippers, and assist in tracking the number of visitors.

Police Headquarters has informed all Officers-in-Charge (OICs) that these stickers will be issued in coordination with Public Security Committees established in each police division. Police divisions across the country will collect advance information on the number of vehicles and pilgrims travelling in groups. One sticker will be issued per vehicle, bearing the signature and official seal of the respective OIC.

Pilgrimage groups are advised to affix the sticker to the upper left corner of the vehicle’s front windshield, ensuring it is clearly visible and does not obstruct the driver’s view.

However, police emphasise that the sticker is not mandatory. It has been introduced solely to facilitate traffic control and pilgrimage coordination. Devotees without the sticker will still be permitted to visit and worship at the Sri Dalada Maligawa.
