A total of 33 candidates contesting in the upcoming Local Government (LG) election have been arrested for violating election laws, according to an official statement issued by Police.

The arrests, made between 3 March and 30 April, come as part of a wider crackdown on election-related offences. Alongside the candidates, 349 supporters from various political parties have also been taken into custody during the same period.

Police also reported that new complaints related to acts of violence were filed yesterday, bringing the total number of such complaints since 3 March to 89.

In a further development, authorities have seized 32 vehicles for election law violations. Police continue to monitor and take action against individuals and groups undermining the integrity of the electoral process.
