Man Hospitalised After Police Shooting in Katunayake

A man has been hospitalised following a police shooting in the 18th Mile Post area in Katunayake this morning (6 May).

According to the Police Spokesman’s Office, officers responded to information about an individual behaving in a disorderly manner around 10:00 a.m. Upon attempting to apprehend him, the suspect reportedly tried to attack one of the officers with a sharp weapon.

Police then opened fire in self-defence, shooting the man below the knee. He was subsequently admitted to the Wijaya Kumaratunga Memorial Hospital in Seeduwa for further treatment.
