The National People’s Power (NPP) has emerged as the single largest party in the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC), winning 48 members with over 81,000 votes — approximately 36.9% of the total vote. However, the party has fallen short of securing an outright majority in the 119-member council.

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) came in second with 29 members, while the United National Party (UNP) secured 13 members. The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) won five seats, and the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) obtained four. Independent groups and smaller parties together claimed 20 members.

With no party reaching the 60-member threshold required for a majority, the CMC — Sri Lanka’s oldest and largest local government institution — is expected to be governed through alliances or coalitions.

Member Breakdown:

  • NPP: 48
  • SJB: 29
  • UNP: 13
  • SLPP: 5
  • SLMC: 4
  • Independent & Minor Parties: 20
