Eleven people have been confirmed dead following a horrific bus accident at Gerandi Ella in Ramboda early this morning (11), police said.

The tragedy occurred when a Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus, operating from Kataragama to Kurunegala via Nuwara Eliya, veered off the Nuwara Eliya–Gampola main road and plunged down a steep precipice. The vehicle reportedly toppled multiple times before coming to a halt in a ravine, leaving a trail of mangled metal and shattered lives.

Among the deceased are at least five males and three females, according to initial reports. However, the process of identifying the victims is still ongoing due to the severity of the incident and the condition of the remains.

Approximately 25 other passengers sustained injuries of varying degrees and have been admitted to the Nuwara Eliya and Kotmale hospitals for treatment.
