Blackcaps bowler Lockie Ferguson has been ruled out of the upcoming one-day series against Sri Lanka after sustaining a left leg injury during the T20I win at Dambulla on Monday morning.

Ferguson left the field after suffering discomfort while bowling his second over and an initial medical assessment indicated he was unfit to play the next 50 overs.

Ferguson will return to New Zealand today for scans that will determine the extent of the injury and the recovery time required.

Adam Milne has been called up in Ferguson’s place and will join the squad tomorrow in Dambulla.

BLACKCAPS head coach Gary Stead said he was disappointed with Ferguson.

The three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka is scheduled to begin on Wednesday in Dambulla.
