Over fifty individuals—including former ministers, senior government officials, and politicians—have recently visited various temples, shrines, and kovils across the country to conduct religious offerings and invoke blessings, according to reliable sources.
Many of those who performed these rituals are reportedly facing serious allegations related to corruption and illicit accumulation of wealth, Lankadeepa reported.
Sources from the Kataragama shrine revealed that more than twenty former politicians had visited the temple in recent days to engage in religious rites and seek spiritual protection.
Meanwhile, a senior government official under investigation for multiple charges is said to have visited the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya in Anuradhapura under special security arrangements. He is reported to have worshipped at the site and received blessings from senior monks in the area.
Additionally, a former politician currently residing in India is said to have performed a large-scale religious offering at a kovil there, also seeking divine blessings.
These developments come as nearly twenty politicians and government officials have been taken into custody in recent days in connection with various corruption and misconduct cases.
