Sinopec recently extended its support to two significant annual religious and community events: the Kiri Vehera and Kataragama Devala Renovation Project, and the Annual Kasagala Purana Rajamaha Vihara Perahera.
On 14 June, more than 450 volunteers—including temple trustees, families, well-wishers, and experienced workers—gathered to clean and repaint the sacred Kiri Vehera and Kataragama Devala premises. This project, now in its 66th consecutive year, stands as a symbol of enduring faith and intergenerational commitment, ensuring these revered sites are preserved for pilgrims from across Sri Lanka. Volunteers worked diligently over five days, performing physically demanding tasks with remarkable spiritual dedication.
Sinopec was honoured to contribute to this meaningful initiative by donating 1,500 bottles of drinking water to support the tireless volunteers working under the harsh dry-zone sun. This gesture reflects Sinopec’s deep commitment to community well-being and its recognition of clean water as a fundamental necessity—especially in demanding environments. The donation was made in collaboration with Filling Station H.U.N Enterprises Athurugiriya, a longstanding supporter of the renovation project. The station consistently provides fuel for the temple’s transport and maintenance teams, ensuring the smooth operation of renovation efforts and other key religious activities.
Additionally, Sinopec partnered with Filling Station Dealer R. M. Abeykoon Banda in Kumbukgete to support the 52nd Annual Kasagala Purana Rajamaha Vihara Perahera. Drinking water was provided to volunteers, performers, and support staff throughout the duration of the event, helping to ensure its success.
These collaborations reflect the strong community bonds cultivated by Sinopec’s network of filling stations across Sri Lanka. Beyond serving as fuel points, these stations act as community hubs—providing not just energy, but continuity and connection. Operated by local entrepreneurs who understand the unique needs of their neighbourhoods, Sinopec stations play a vital role in cultural preservation and grassroots development.
By supporting these initiatives, Sinopec underscores its belief that its role in Sri Lanka goes far beyond infrastructure and fuel supply. The company remains committed to enriching the communities it operates in by empowering regional traditions and acting as a catalyst for positive, lasting change.
