Vimukthi Dushantha Appointed Assistant Secretary of Sri Lanka–India Media Friendship Association

Prominent young journalist and communications strategist Vimukthi Dushantha has been appointed as the Assistant Secretary of the Sri Lanka–India Media Friendship Association (SLIMFA) for the 2025–2026 term, in recognition of his wide-ranging contributions to media, public communication, and digital advocacy in Sri Lanka.

Dushantha, is the Founder of Info Sri Lanka. He has held several key roles in government, civil society, and international media programmes, including serving as Director of Communications and Public Relations at the Jathika Janasabha Secretariat under the Presidential Secretariat.

His career spans editorial positions at Lake House (The Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd), media coordination for the UN-assisted ‘Ahanna’ reconciliation initiative, and strategic consultancy at the Secretariat for Coordinating Reconciliation Mechanisms (SCRM) under the Prime Minister’s Office. He has also played leadership roles at the Asian Centre for Broad-based Policy Advocacy (ACBPA), the People’s Movement for Digital Rights (PMDR), and Alternative Media Networks.

Dushantha currently chairs INSEL Holdings (Pvt) Ltd, a communications and branding agency, and has served on several national advisory bodies, including the Anti-Corruption Committee of the Ministry of Power, the advisory board of Apeksha Cancer Hospital, and the Professional Web Journalists’ Association (PWJA).

Established in 2024 with the patronage of the High Commission of India, SLIMFA aims to enhance bilateral understanding and cooperation between Sri Lanka and India through collaborative media initiatives, professional exchanges, and technological capacity building.

SLIMFA’s flagship event, Media Fest 2025, brought together top journalists, media students, digital content creators, and policymakers from both countries for a multi-day conference focusing on themes such as artificial intelligence in journalism, mobile-first content creation, combating disinformation, ethical storytelling, and media monetization.

Among the distinguished participants were Palki Sharma (Firstpost), Siddhant Sibal (WION), Shailesh Shekhar (India Today Group), and L.V. Krishnan (TAM Media Research). The festival received high-level endorsements from Dr. Satyanjal Pandey, Acting Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, and Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, Sri Lanka’s Minister of Health and Mass Media.
