Attorney-at-Law Chamari Priyanka, the widow of late State Minister Sanath Nishantha, has firmly denied rumours circulating on social media claiming she is planning to leave the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) to join another political party.

Responding to questions from journalists after receiving appointment as the party organiser of Anamaduwa, Priyanka clarified that she has never considered such a move and dismissed the reports as completely false.

“My entry into politics was solely due to the late State Minister Sanath Nishantha. I have never entertained the idea of leaving the SLPP for another party,” she said. “No matter what is being said on social media or by the media, I don’t believe anyone would think I would betray the path that led to my political journey. I certainly don’t have any such intention.”

She further remarked that it is up to the public to observe whether the current government is effectively serving the people.

“The public is aware of whether the government is actively working for them or not. I don’t believe in pointing fingers unnecessarily at this stage. People already know which promises have been fulfilled and which have not,” she added.

Commenting on her recent appointment, she noted, “Now that I have officially been given the role of electoral organiser, I believe it will bring new energy to the local party base. We are confident that just as the SLPP secured remarkable victories in the presidential, general, and local government elections, we are poised to make a strong impact in the upcoming elections as well.”
