CIABOC’s Busy Half-Year: 3,022 Complaints, 54 Raids, and Counting

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) said a total of 34 individuals were arrested in connection with bribery incidents during the first six months of this year.

Between 1 January and 30 June, CIABOC received 3,022 complaints relating to bribery and corruption. The Commission carried out 54 raids during this period, leading to the arrest of 34 suspects.

Among those arrested were 10 officers from the Sri Lanka Police, five officials attached to the Ministry of Justice, two officials from the Ministry of Health, and two from the Sri Lanka Transport Board. In addition, six civilians were also apprehended on bribery charges during the same period.

The Commission further stated that 50 cases have been filed across various courts in the country against 60 suspects implicated in bribery-related incidents within this six-month timeframe.

Meanwhile, six cases were concluded during this period, and 273 bribery-related cases are currently being heard in courts islandwide.
