The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has taken steps to bar five magistrates from performing their duties within the span of a week.

Among those affected are Moratuwa Magistrate Thilina Gamagē, Mahiyanganaya Additional District Judge Rangani Gamagē, and three newly appointed probationary magistrates who have not yet completed their probationary period.

The Judicial Service Commission is chaired by Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena. Supreme Court Justice Mahinda Samayawardhena also serves as a member of the Commission. However, the vacancy created following the retirement of Justice Gamini Amarasekara has not yet been filled by the Constitutional Council.

High Court Judge Prasanna Alwis currently serves as the Secretary to the Commission.
