Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe has reportedly informed the United National Party (UNP) that he will not take legal action against the withdrawal of privileges granted to former presidents.

Wickremesinghe has said he sees no need to go to court seeking protection of such entitlements and further noted that if other former presidents decide to pursue legal proceedings, he will not extend his support.

He also revealed that legal advice given to former presidents suggested that if cases are filed, they should proceed without presenting contradictory arguments.

According to Wickremesinghe, no collective discussions have so far taken place among former presidents to oppose the reduction of privileges. He clarified that only two informal exchanges occurred—one with former President Maithripala Sirisena, who raised the issue in conversation, and another with former President Mahinda Rajapaksa during a wedding where he expressed views on the matter.
