The no-confidence motion (NCM) brought by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) against Deputy Defence Minister Aruna Jayasekara is facing practical hurdles, with party members admitting that there is an issue in moving such a motion against a deputy minister.

Speaking to reporters, SJB MP Rohana Bandara said that despite these difficulties, the party intends to pursue an alternative course of action. He noted that the group behind the initiative is preparing to bring another formal allegation against Jayasekara through a different mechanism.

“There is an inherent problem in bringing a no-confidence motion against a deputy minister, and that is practically accepted,” Bandara explained. “We are working on a way to address this challenge, and in the future, we will put forward another proposal to hold him accountable.”

He also admitted that the current no-confidence motion has little chance of success. “We know this won’t win, but that is not the only purpose. Our main objective is to create this ideology within the country,” Bandara added.
