Prison authorities at Angunakolapelessa Prison have discovered a vial of cyanide during an inspection, the Prison Headquarters announced.

The cyanide was found in the possession of an inmate identified as Tharindu Madhusanka, reportedly a close associate of the notorious drug trafficker “Kudu Salindu.”

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the cyanide had been smuggled into the prison with the alleged intention of using it to assassinate another inmate, “Commando Kavishka Kumara.”

Prison sources further disclosed that to test the substance, officials injected a small amount into a monitor lizard captured on site, which died instantly, confirming the lethal nature of the cyanide.
