Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) member Sanjaya Nechchumanaar stated that if former President Ranil Wickremesinghe were to be convicted over matters such as Batalanda torture camp or the Central Bank bond scam, they would not comment on it, as such offences deserved punishment.

However, he stressed that Wickremesinghe’s current remand is “100 percent political revenge.”

Nechchumanaar noted that even four political leaders in India had posted on X, saying the punishment handed to Wickremesinghe was wrong, while a minister from Norway too had expressed disapproval.

He added that Wickremesinghe was not being penalised for a major wrongdoing but for a trivial issue.

Nechchumanaar made these remarks at a press briefing held today (25).
