49 Arrested Over Bribery in First Seven Months of 2024 – CIABOC

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) said 49 individuals were arrested in connection with bribery-related incidents during the first seven months of this year.

According to the Commission, it received 3,937 complaints in this period, leading to 72 raids, of which 39 were successfully carried out.

The highest number of arrests came from the Sri Lanka Police, with 17 officers taken into custody. Others were from several state institutions, including the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Health, Department of Immigration and Emigration, Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB), and District Secretariats.

CIABOC further noted that 27 individuals were convicted by courts for accepting bribes during the same period.
