Kahatuduwa Police have arrested popular rap artist ‘Shan Putha’ in connection with an incident involving the alleged supply of explosives to fellow rapper Madhawa Prasad, known as ‘Maduwa.’
Police said the suspect surrendered through his lawyer before being taken into custody. Madhawa Prasad (‘Maduwa’) was arrested on 2 September over the same case.
According to police, Shan Putha was previously arrested on 25 August at the Mount Clifford Housing Complex in Kahatuduwa while in possession of a fake pistol. He was later released on bail after being produced before the Kesbewa Magistrate’s Court.
Police investigations revealed that explosives had been hidden behind another house belonging to the suspect in Pitipana, Galahena. Acting on a tip-off, the Kahatuduwa Crimes Investigation Division questioned the suspect, leading to the discovery of the explosives.
During interrogation, police learned that a constable currently in remand custody for stealing a firearm from the Kotavila Police had accompanied Shan Putha to deliver the explosives for safekeeping. Based on this evidence, the rapper was arrested.
Police said the suspect will be produced before the Kesbewa Magistrate’s Court after statements are recorded.
Shan Putha has previously been arrested for the possession of a 9mm firearm.
