Who Did President Meet on First Day of India Visit, and What Did They Discuss?

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, currently on a three-day official visit to India, arrived at the ITC Maurya Hotel in New Delhi today (15). He met with several key Indian officials, including Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar, and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval.

In the meeting with Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, extensive discussions were held on enhancing Indo-Sri Lankan economic cooperation and expanding investment opportunities between the two nations. Topics such as increasing the return of Indian-origin Sri Lankans to Sri Lanka, agricultural modernization, and digital infrastructure development in Sri Lanka were also discussed.

During the meeting with External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar they discussed the potential for utilizing India’s vast market to aid Sri Lanka’s economic revival. Dr Jaishankar reiterated India’s commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s tourism, investment, and energy sectors. The conversation also focused on areas of mutual interest, including fisheries and the promotion of national unity.

Later, President Dissanayake met with India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval to discuss matters of regional security and cooperation.
