The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has issued a statement regarding a complaint received about its current Director General, Ranga Dissanayake, allegedly admitting his child to a leading Colombo school through irregular means in 2014, when Dissanayake was a judge.

The Commission stated that, following an order from its Chairperson and the other two members, a preliminary investigation was conducted under Section 42(1) of the Bribery Act.

Given that the complaint was against the Commission’s own Director General, it was prioritised and investigated without delay, CIABOC said in its statement.

As part of the inquiry, reports were obtained from the Judicial Service Commission and the relevant school in Colombo. Investigators found that the child’s admission had been carried out in line with the Ministry of Education guidelines based on Supreme Court ruling SCFR 235/2011, which governs school admissions for children of judicial officers.

Furthermore, CIABOC noted that several other children of judicial officers had also been admitted to Royal College, Colombo, during the same year under the same guidelines.

The Commission concluded that there had been no institutional irregularities, bias, unlawful conduct, or political interference in the process of admitting the child to the school.
