As part of efforts to strengthen Sri Lanka’s justice system, the government has taken steps to establish an Independent Prosecutor’s Office by appointing an expert committee.
According to the Ministry of Justice and National Integration, members of the committee held a discussion yesterday (1 October) under the chairmanship of Justice Minister Harsha Nanayakkara. The meeting focused on preparing the initial framework and plans required for setting up the office.
The ministry further stated that once the draft concept paper is prepared, the opinions of the public and civil society organisations will be sought before finalising the proposal.
Among those who took part in the discussion were Supreme Court Judge President’s Counsel Yasantha Kodagoda, Attorney General President’s Counsel Parinda Ranasinghe, and President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka, Attorney Rajiv Amarasuriya.
