Police Media Spokesperson ASP F.U. Wootler has confirmed that Ishara Sewwandi, one of the main suspects in the murder of organized crime figure Sanjeewa Kumara Samararatne, alias ‘Ganemulla Sanjeewa’, who was arrested in Nepal, is scheduled to be brought to Sri Lanka.

Speaking at a special media briefing at the Police Media Division today (14), Wootler said that along with Ishara Sewwandi, four other suspects, who reportedly provided her protection, have also been detained.

The spokesperson explained that the arrest of the main suspect was carried out with the cooperation of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), special intelligence units, foreign support, and computer intelligence resources in Nepal, as well as on-the-ground intelligence in the country.

He added that Ishara Sewwandi is believed to have participated in planning several murders in different courts and is considered a key figure in organized criminal activities.

ASP Wootler further stated that, in addition to Ishara Sewwandi, the other woman suspect and the remaining suspects will also be brought to Sri Lanka in due course.

He noted that around 40 organized criminals and offenders who have fled the country currently have Interpol Red Notices issued against them. Of these, 18 suspects have already been brought back to Sri Lanka so far in 2025.
