The Kopay Police Station has been relocated in compliance with an order issued by the Jaffna District Court.

The station had been operating within eight houses belonging to eight civilians. The court has directed that seven of these houses be returned to their rightful owners.

The police confirmed that, as of today (15), the properties have been handed back to the respective owners by the Fiscal Officer.

In the meantime, the Jaffna Police will continue to receive complaints from the area while maintaining operations on temporary basis.

For security reasons, the firearms storage of the Kopay Police Station has also been transferred to the Jaffna Police.

Authorities have reported that efforts are underway to reestablish the Kopay Police Station in the area in approximately two months.

It is reported that , since 1995, when Jaffna came under full military control, the police haveoccupied approximately 2.77 acres of land in Kalviyangattu and its surroundings. This included privately owned houses and their adjoining lands.
