Former Chairman of the Anamaduwa Pradeshiya Sabha, Udara Madhusanka Perera, has been arrested by the Anamaduwa Police early this morning (16) for unruly behaviour and misconduct inside the police station.
Police said Perera, who had represented the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) during his tenure as Chairman, arrived at the Anamaduwa Police Station late last night in his vehicle, crashing through the premises. He had reportedly revved his engine loudly and behaved in an indecent and disorderly manner.
When a police officer attempted to question him regarding the incident, Perera had allegedly verbally abused the officer.
The police stated that he appeared to be intoxicated at the time of the incident, and his aggressive behaviour led to his arrest.
Perera currently serves as an SLPP organiser for the Anamaduwa electorate and remains an active political figure in the area.
