The Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) has announced that its one-day driver’s licence printing service—currently available only through the Werahera and Hambantota offices—will be extended to the Kurunegala, Badulla, and Ampara district offices from 2026.
A senior DMT official said that at present, only 12 district offices are connected to the department’s central digital system based in Werahera, and plans are underway to link the remaining 13 offices to the network.
He added that the move aims to improve efficiency in services such as licence printing and ensure a smoother process for the public.
Meanwhile, the Werahera office—the DMT’s main centre for driver’s licence operations—is set to receive two new printing machines, increasing its daily licence printing capacity to 5,000.
Additionally, DMT sources revealed that the department is expected to receive a new stock of one million licence cards in the near future.
