Siriliya Saviya Funds Medical Care For Child With Rare Condition

In August 2014, worried parents of a small boy named Dulen Nimtharu came to meet Siriliya Saviya Director Shiranthi Rajapaksa with their child, seeking help.

The boy suffered from a rare condition. His anus was not located in the right place and he had two sets of genitalia. A special surgery was required to treat him. This was not available in Sri Lanka and the child had to be taken to Shen Zhen Children's Hospital in China.

Shiranthi Wickramasinghe Rajapaksa came to the assistance of the child and coordinated with Dr. Li of Shen Zhen Children's Hospital. The child and his parents left for China on November 30, 2014.

A team of 12 doctors carried out five surgeries on Dulen, who was the first child to undergo such a treatment. The child, who is still three years and five months old, arrived in Sri Lanka on July 12.

Until he reaches the age of five Dulen will have to be inspected by Dr. Li every six months.
