Padmavati Trailer: Breathtaking And Magnificent Visuals Unveil An Epic Love Story

The trailer for Padmavati was released on Monday and it has created quite a storm in B-Town. Garnering appreciation from all corners, this star-studded film has blockbuster written all over it already. Extravaganza fitting of Rajput glory explored in the much-awaited trailer of director Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus Padmavati and it promises a powerful film. The trailer was released exactly at 13:03 on 09th October and the time frame came with its own significance as it was in 1303 AD that Rawal Singh first fought Khilji and the makers wanted to pay homage to the glorious era.

The film features Deepika Padukone as the titular character; Rani Padmini, Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh, Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji and Aditi Rao Hydari as Kamala Devi. The film score is composed by Sacnhit Balhara while the songs are composed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Aishwarya Rai and Salman Khan were Bhansali's initial choice for the roles of Rani Padmini and Rawal Ratan Singh, however they refused to share the screen together. Media speculated that many leading Bollywood actors including Shahrukh Khan refused to act in the film because of its woman-centric title.Padmavati ran into trouble with fringe groups after reports that there would be a romantic dream sequence between Rani Padmini and Alauddin Khilji in the film. Further, Sanjay Leela Bhansali was attacked by the Shri Rajput Karni Sena earlier this year for 'distorting' history.

The film is a fictionised tale of the life of Rani Padmini, a legendary Hindu Rajput queen, mentioned in Padmavat. According to Padmavat, she was the wife of Rana Rawal Ratan Singh, the Rajput ruler of Mewar. In 1303, Alauddin Khalji, the Turkic ruler of the Delhi Sultanate, laid siege to the Chittor Fort in Rajputana. According to Padmavat, Khalji led the invasion motivated by his desire to capture Rani Padmini. Rani padmini committed jauhar( self immolation) to protect her honour.

In Malik Muhammad Jayasi's Padmavat (1540 CE), Padmavati was the daughter of Gandharv Sen, the king of the Sinhala Kingdom (Singhal kingdom).

Like Sanjay Leela Bhansali's previous films, Padmavati is expected to be a visual delight. SLB's much-awaited period drama 'Padmavati' is scheduled to hit the screens on 1 December 2017.
