Cleanup Nearing Finish At Tianjin Blast Site

September 04, 2015

The cleanup work at the blast site of Tianjin explosions is about to finish, local officials said on Friday.

The containers have been cleaned while the polluted water and soil in the blast site have been transported to safety.

Local officials said 13 people are still missing.

The air quality monitors detected several pollutants in the blast site but the concentrations were all within national standards.

Seventeen water quality monitoring stations in the blast site detected cyanide. Five of the stations reported the amount of cyanide they detected exceeded the national standard.

The explosions of a chemical warehouse ripped through a large area in Tianjin port on August 12, killing 160 people.
