A single shot fired outside an Ottawa mall left one person with minor injuries in what police were treating as an isolated incident.
"It's not an active shooter situation," Staff sergeant Rick Keindel said yesterday.
He said police were looking for at least one suspect and were trying to figure out if the shooter had fled.
The shooting occurred on Boxing Day, one of Canada's busiest shopping days of the year. It occurred on a pedestrian walkway at the Tanger Outlets mall around 3:45 pm (local time), Keindel said.
The victim had non-life-threatening injuries and was in stable condition.
Keindel said about a dozen officers cordoned off the area. He said no weapon had been recovered at the scene. Local media reported that shoppers weren't being allowed into the mall.
Keindel said witnesses were being interviewed and that investigators would look into any available surveillance footage of the shooting.
