A woman has spoken of her terror after her car skidded out of control in the snow and was left hanging precariously over a 30ft drop.
The drama happened as the 26-year-old Slaithwaite woman was driving along the A62 Standedge Cutting between Marsden and Oldham in the pitch dark early on Sunday morning.
The woman, who asked not to be named, had just dropped her partner at work in Oldham and was heading towards Marsden near The Carriage House pub when she hit snow and ice on the road.
She touched her brakes and the car skidded and spun around almost 360 degrees onto the wrong side of the road before plunging front end first towards an embankment drop.
The Citroen Picasso shuddered to a halt, hanging precariously the Examiner reports.
The woman, who was wearing her pyjamas, sheepskin boots and a coat, said: “I thought I was going to die.
“It was like a scene from a movie and it all happened in slow motion. All I could think of was the car was going over the edge. I just undid my seatbelt and jumped.”
The woman scrambled to her feet in the snow as the car remained on the edge.
The woman’s dog, which was in the backseat, began wimpering and – without a thought – she turned back to snatch the terrified pet from the car and ran for safety.
The accident happened at 7.10am while it was still dark. There are no street lights and the woman could only get emergency service reception on her mobile phone.
Hysterical, she dialled 999 and police were despatched. She said the first car got stuck in snow and another vehicle had to be sent. She was waiting by the roadside in freezing temperatures for 25 minutes.
Five other cars went past without stopping before eventually a Tesco lorry braked, skidded to a halt and reversed back to check she was okay.
