More Than 500 Arrested For ‘Hate Speech’ In Pakistan

The recent report on the implementation of Pakistan’s anti-terror plan revealed that at least 540 people have been arrested across the country for hate speech, ARY News reported.

The report submitted to Prime Minister Pakistan Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif states that a total of 10616 miscreants have been arrested in 14886 search raids across the country.

It is revealed that a total of 2035 people were arrested on the charge of misusing the loudspeaker while 540 were arrested for hate speech.

Moreover 3416 illegal Afghan immigrants were repatriated in the first phase while 24 people were nabbed for illegal transfer of money. An amount of 71.5 million rupees was recovered from them.

The report further says that 25.5 million mobile phone SIMs were verified while 1250 operations were conducted on tip off from calls on 1717 helpline.

Pakistan’s military and political leadership agreed on a comprehensive anti-terrorism action plan which included establishment of military courts, crackdown on terrorist hideouts, communications and funding sources, repatriation of Afghan immigrants among others after an attack on Peshawar’s Army Public School which killed 149 people mostly children.
