Wylie Brys and his father, Tim, discovered the fossil last September but scientists from Southern Methodist University could only begin work now after obtaining the necessary permits.

The fossil could be from a nodosaur, a pony-sized dinosaur that lived around 100 million years ago.

“My dad told me it was a turtle,” Wylie told the Dallas Morning News, "but now he’s telling me it’s a dinosaur.”
