A court in Indonesia has rejected the final appeal of a French national facing the death penalty for drug-related offences.

The court said it would not overturn a rejection of clemency for Serge Atlaoui from Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

Atlaoui was granted a last-minute reprieve in April and left out of a group of foreigners who were executed.

Indonesia's tough stance on drug trafficking has drawn international criticism.

The Attorney General's Office has said the appeal against the rejection of his clemency bid was the final legal recourse for Atlaoui. His lawyers have nonetheless vowed to continue to seek legal avenues.

An execution date has not yet been set.
