Minuwangoda police are investigating the alleged murder of a 71-year-old woman, whose body was found with signs of sexual assault.

The victim, a widow for the past two years, had been living alone in her home in Yatiyana, Minuwangoda. The incident came to light when a neighbor, visiting her residence on 24 October 2025, discovered her lying on the floor and alerted the authorities.

Magistrate Indrani Ratnayake, who visited the scene, instructed the police to refer the case to the Gampaha Judicial Medical Officer for a post-mortem examination.

Police confirmed that further investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.
