Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe has directly confronted his party members with a poignant question, asking why the public failed to support him electorally despite his administration’s success in launching various key projects in the country.
The candid question was reportedly posed during a meeting at his political office in Colombo 7 on last Thursday (23) afternoon.
While reflecting on his political career, Wickremesinghe put the question to his supporters: “Despite successfully initiating various important projects in the country, why did the people not vote for me?”
In response, the consensus among most members was: “Ranil Wickremesinghe always thinks a decade ahead, but the public thinks a decade behind.” They stated that this mismatch between Wickremesinghe’s vision and the public’s expectations was a key reason for the disconnect on many occasions.
As an example, members pointed out that when Ranil Wickremesinghe was thinking about the “computer age,” the people were still living in an era dominated by traditional livelihoods.
