Japan, India begin study on laser-equipped satellite to combat space debris

Space giants Japan and India said on Tuesday (Dec 17, 2024) they had agreed to jointly study using laser-mounted satellites to remove debris from orbit, an experimental approach to the increasingly imminent problem of orbital congestion.

Tokyo-based Orbital Lasers and Indian robotics company InspeCity said they are studying business opportunities for space services such as removing a defunct satellite and extending the life of a spacecraft.
