Two suspects — including a school principal from Eppawala — who were arrested with 1.2 kilograms of heroin during a raid in the Eppawala–Andagala area, have been ordered to be detained until 12 November.

The order was issued by the Thambuttegama Magistrate’s Court today.

The arrests were made by the Anuradhapura Police Crimes Division, which recovered the heroin concealed inside a hotel where the suspects were staying.

Police said the principal’s wife is a member of the Peliyagoda Urban Council representing the National People’s Power (NPP).

The suspects, aged 54 and 22, are residents of the same area, and investigations have revealed that they had been involved in drug trafficking for a significant period.

Further investigations are being carried out by the Anuradhapura Police.
