The Colombo Fort Magistrate yesterday (6) ordered the Government Analyst to examine video footage related to the case filed against Pivithuru Hela Urumaya leader Udaya Gammanpila, who is accused of making statements through electronic and print media that allegedly incited disharmony among communities.

Magistrate Isuru Neththikumara issued the directive after considering a request seeking court approval to submit the relevant footage to the Government Analyst and obtain an analytical report.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) informed court that it had received both the aired television discussion and the unedited footage linked to the contested statement. The CID further submitted an updated progress report on the ongoing investigation.

The CID told court that the inquiry is being carried out under applicable provisions of the Penal Code.

Meanwhile, media institutions that aired or published the statements in question were instructed to hand over the relevant broadcasts and articles to the CID. In compliance with those orders, the unedited and broadcast versions of the footage were submitted to court.
