The anti-government rally scheduled to be held in Nugegoda on 21 November is intended to remind the government of the promises it made to the people, said Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa.

He made these remarks speaking to the media yesterday, following discussions held at the office of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe on Flower Road.

Rajapaksa added that several opposition parties have already joined discussions in preparation for the rally. “Earlier, such talks were limited to the SLPP, but now we are engaging with all opposition parties,” he said.

He further noted that the purpose of the rally is to pressure the government to fulfil its pledges, adding that many individuals affected by the government’s policies are also expected to participate.

According to Rajapaksa, the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), the United National Party (UNP), and several other political parties have agreed to take part in the rally, while the participation of other groups will be decided following their internal discussions.
