Pivithuru Hela Urumaya leader Udaya Gammanpila has claimed that he began canvassing for the United National Party (UNP) while still in his mother’s womb, the Sunday Times reported.

He is said to have made the remark during a recent meeting at the office of UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe in Malpara.

According to the report, Gammanpila stated that he has no unfamiliarity with the UNP, noting that his mother’s brother served as the UNP organiser for Nawalpitiya at the time his mother was pregnant with him.

Gammanpila visited Wickremesinghe’s office together with Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organiser Namal Rajapaksa for discussions regarding the protest scheduled to be held in Nugegoda on 21 November.
