A 40-year-old woman has died following an acid attack on her and her 16-year-old son in the Kolabewa area within the Ayagama Police Division.

Police received information about the incident last night (20) and officers rushed to the scene, where the seriously injured mother and child were taken to the Ayagama Hospital.

The woman, a resident of Gawaragiriya in Kolabewa, later succumbed to her injuries, police said.

Initial investigations indicate that the attack arose from a personal dispute with several neighbours.

The body has been placed at the Ratnapura Hospital morgue, while the Ayagama Police continue investigations to arrest the suspects.
