A bus carrying nearly 70 passengers has become stranded on the Kalawewa bridge along the Anuradhapura–Puttalam road, Parliament was informed today (28).

Parliamentarian Ajith P. Perera stated that the bus had remained stuck at the location for about an hour and a half.

Responding, Minister of Justice Harsha Nanayakkara confirmed the incident, noting that authorities had already instructed the bus not to proceed, but it had continued regardless, resulting in it becoming trapped.

“It is correct that the Anuradhapura incident occurred as reported. The bus had been warned not to go ahead. As a result, it got stuck. According to information received, around 60 people are still there. Two Army teams are currently on-site, and arrangements are being made to deploy a helicopter as well,” the Minister said.
