Death Toll from Severe Weather Rises to 123; Over 130 Missing

The death toll from the severe weather affecting Sri Lanka over the past several days has risen to 123, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) reported.

A further 130 individuals remain missing.

Of the confirmed deaths, 51 have been reported from the Kandy District, where 67 people are still unaccounted for. The Badulla District has recorded 35 deaths, with 27 individuals missing.

Nine deaths have been reported from Kegalle, eight from Matale, six from Nuwara Eliya and five from Ampara.

The DMC noted that Cyclone Ditwah has affected 373,428 people from 102,877 families nationwide.

As of the latest update, 43,925 individuals have been relocated to 488 safety centres due to the ongoing impact of the extreme weather.
